Human services, hospitals relieved by state budget compromise

After three years of frustration, Central Illinois human services agencies are relieved by the state budget compromise that preserved health and human services programs. “The uncertainty in state funding the past few years has decimated the network of human services providers across Illinois,” said Mendy Smith, Children’s Home & Aid program director of family support services. “It’s encouraging that we finally have a full budget in place ahead of the new fiscal year (which begins July 1) for the first time since 2015,” Smith said. “Being able to plan ahead for the services we provide … means better outcomes for more children and families.”
