Gov. Bruce Rauner signed off on legislation revamping the state’s hospital assessment program earlier this month. Illinois Health and Hospital Association President and CEO A.J. Wilhelmi praises hospitals, managed care organizations and policymakers for tackling the “extremely complex and very difficult” issue. “It was an extraordinary process and a very good outcome for the state’s Medicaid program, for our hospital community and, most importantly, for the Medicaid beneficiaries that our hospitals are privileged to serve,” he said in a recent interview. Wilhelmi spoke with Health News Illinois this week on the revamped program, which still needs federal approval before it goes into effect, as well as the expansion of Medicaid managed care.
