Affordable Care Act Update
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, often shortened to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and nicknamed “Obamacare” was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Due to the ACA, the uninsured rate in the United States is the lowest is has been in over 50 years. Congress and the Trump Administration continue to try to dismantle the ACA. 1115 Behavioral Health Waiver
Illinois was granted an 1115 Waiver for behavioral health. The 1115 Waiver gives states the freedom to use their Medicaid dollars in ways that would not normally be allowed under existing Medicaid rules. As long as states do not exceed what they would normally spend for their Medicaid program, CMS can provide a waiver to allow them to pilot and test initiatives that show promise in improving the way that Medicaid works.
