2019 Quality Showcase
Quality is a hallmark of the care we deliver. In 2019, clinicians from across our healthcare system have the opportunity to showcase the impact of programs to improve patient safety and enhance quality care, while reducing healthcare costs with legislators at the State Capitol. Each of our programs are highlighted in the resources here.
SANE Nurse Training
The Illinois SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) program was developed by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to increase the number of SANEs working in Illinois by providing high quality, consistent education and support for registered nurses and other professionals serving sexual assault survivors.
The United States is in the midst of an opioid overdose epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 2000 to 2016, more than 600,000 people died from drug overdoses. Opioids killed more than 42,000 people in 2016, more than any year on record. On average, 115 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose.
Nurse staffing ratios are rigid nurse to patient ratios for various types of patients without consideration for patient needs, staff skills, experience, clinical setting and desired patient outcomes.
Sepsis occurs when the body’s response to infection is so overwhelming that it causes widespread inflammation, damaging its own tissue and organs. As the condition progresses from sepsis to severe sepsis to septic shock, it can lead to organ failure, tissue damage, and death.
According to the National Institutes of Health, anyone can get sepsis, but infants, children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems and certain chronic diseases are most vulnerable.
Pharmacy Staffing Ratios
Pharmacy staffing ratios are requirements for the number of prescriptions that can be filled by pharmacists and technicians within certain periods of time, record-keeping requirements and specified break periods. Periodically, changes are made to reflect technology, education and work environments.
